AsReader shows award-winning wearable RFID: RecoHand™ with HRC (Human-Robot Collaboration) and other new tech at 2024 PACK EXPO

Last updated:11/20/2024 13:57

November 3 through November 6, AsReader, TEIJIN FRONTIER, LOGISTEED, and Kyocera Mobile showed crowds how humans and robots can work together to cut picking time in half with touch tracking at the 2024 PACK EXPO Show at McCormick Place, Chicago. They also showed WMS Software from LOGISTEED, fully integrated with the rugged Kyocera DuraForce PRO 3 and AsCamera scanning software at the 2024 PACK EXPO Show.

Locus Origin

A new technology partnership between AsReader and Locus Robotics, the world’s leading Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) manufacturer was on display. Dubbed the “Locus Origin” robot, the AMR links with RecoHand’s RFID technology to create a state-of-the-art warehouse management system with a new approach to improving logistics efficiency and automation.

The Locus Origin robot allows humans and robots to collaborate on automation and optimize manual processes, without replacing humans. The robots travel the warehouse floor with totes, and humans pick the product and put it into the totes.

The technology that works with the Locus Origin robot is the RecoHand™, a new Wearable RFID device from AsReader and Teijin Frontier that achieved FCC approval in the US this year. This technology was recently named a finalist for the Best New Product of 2024 by RFID Journal and highlighted as “an engineering win.”

Until now, picking has been a two-part process where workers grab the box, then read it with a Barcode Scanner (wearable or handheld). Now, as users grab the box, the wearable RecoHand is reading the existing RFID tag on the item as workers grab it — in one motion. This has improved efficiency rates by 50% in practical use in Japan.

The outer glove of the RecoHand is made of the same strong material as professional golf gloves and has been in use by the Japanese government for more than two years, but just became available to the US market this year. Workers learned to scan bins by running their hands across products, and while grabbing the items and they’re able to read it simultaneously. Used at hospitals’ warehouses for first responders and COVID-19 response, the Tokyo government reported that using RecoHand more than doubled their productivity speed.

LOGISTEED and Kyocera Mobile were also on-hand, showing how Kyocera’s rugged Class1Div2 smartphones, combined with AsReeader Barcode and/or RFID Scanning make production times faster and more efficient.
